mediachameleon: hockey diaries

"Hockey Diaries" is a project of Media Chameleon, an independent public radio production company. We try to bring listeners a unique, sound-rich experience. "Hockey Diaries" explores what it takes to make it in professional hockey. We thought a rookie and a veteran would tell this story best, and we looked for two players willing to share their thoughts frankly with us. Meet Karl Alzner and Brooks Laich. They kept audio diaries, while we documented their practices, games, team activities, fan events and media interactions. We mic'd them up in scrimmages and drills, and interviewed their coaches, teammates, family members and friends. During the year, short features aired periodically on NPR; at season's end, the public radio series Soundprint aired our 25-minute documentary. An hour-long version will feed on the NHL channel on satellite radio. We hope you get a chance to listen and let us know what you think. -- Chris Nelson and Gemma Hooley
